Malya Farming Enterprise Boosts Certified Seed Production with Beneficial Rains
Tarımsal Araştırmalar ve Politikalar Genel Müdürlüğü (TAGEM) tarafından geliştirilen İç Anadolu koşullarına uygun, kuraklığa dayanıklı 'Tarm-92' ve 'B
Malya Farming Enterprise, a leading 4th largest operation under the Ministry of Agriculture, has conducted certified seed production for wheat and feed crops across 89 hectares using 20 combine harvesters. The enterprise plans to produce a total of 12,000 tons of wheat seeds, including 7,000 tons of 'Tarm-92' and 'Burak Bey' barley varieties, and 5,000 tons of 'Bayraktar-2000', 'Bezostaja-1', and 'Es-26' wheat varieties, all developed by the Ministry of Agricultural Research and Policies (TAGEM) for adaptation to Central Anatolian conditions. The farm's agricultural engineer, Yiğit Yılmaz Gönenç, confirmed that the enterprise produces both seed wheat and feed legumes. Gönenç highlighted that the enterprise's wheat and barley production covers 57,000 hectares, while feed legumes are cultivated on 32,000 hectares. The farm aims to supply certified seeds derived from crops grown on approximately 90,000 hectares. Gönenç noted that legume yields reached 600 tons, with 500 tons earmarked for seed processing and sales. Wheat production targets 26,000 tons at an average yield of 450 kg per hectare, reflecting a significant improvement over the long-term average of 12,000 tons. The beneficial rainfall during the growing season contributed to these high yields. Agricultural engineer Yiğit Yılmaz Gönenç emphasized that the enterprise's mission is to produce certified seeds, leveraging TAGEM's drought-resistant and high-yielding varieties tailored to Central Anatolia's climate. The farm's field supervisor, Osman Kılıç, reported that the harvest was conducted in two groups using 20 combine harvesters, supported by firefighting, tanker, and tractor teams to mitigate fire risks. Kılıç expressed optimism for future harvests, stating, 'This year was fruitful. May God grant us the same prosperity in the coming years. We are working diligently. May our homeland be blessed, prosperous, abundant, and fertile.' > These figures underscore Malya Farming Enterprise's resilience in certified seed production and the success of climate-adapted varieties in Central Anatolia. Such data aligns with TAGEM's efforts to set quality standards in agriculture and supports farmers' productivity. This development could have a positive impact on both the local economy and national agricultural policies.
