Bitcoin and Ethereum Prices: U.S. Treasury Yields and Crypto Market Retreat

Bitcoin (BTC-USD) opened at $65,047.87 on July 24, 2026, 1.6% lower than the previous day's opening price. As of now, Bitcoin is trading at $64,304.50. Ethereum (ETH-USD) opened at $1,876.92, down 2.9% from the previous day's opening price, and currently at $1,860.78. The market retreated as Bitcoin spot ETFs recorded $225 million in net outflows on the fourth day, breaking a week-long streak of roughly $999 million in net inflows. Higher oil prices and new tariff policies increased U.S. Treasury yields, driving institutional investors away from risk assets like crypto. Bitcoin and Ethereum face higher opportunity costs due to lack of interest income, while Ethereum stakers earn rewards but with additional risks. Bitcoin's all-time high was $126,198.07 in October 2025, and its all-time low was $0.04865 in July 2010. Ethereum's all-time high was $4,953.73 in August 2025, and its all-time low was $0.4209 in October 2015. The Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) Director William J. Pulte ordered Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to prepare for crypto-backed mortgages, stating the housing system 'needs a massive upgrade' and that 'Americans should be able to use their crypto if they want to.' This signals a fundamental shift in how crypto assets may be used for mortgages.

The retreat in crypto markets reflects the U.S. economic policies' approach to crypto assets. Rising Treasury yields and risk aversion are reducing interest in crypto investments. However, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac's preparations for crypto-backed mortgages signal a potential shift in the future of crypto homeownership.
