Borsa Istanbul's Early Signals: BIST 100 Opening Figures and Geopolitical Risks

The buy-sell balance in Borsa Istanbul is shaping up with selling pressure in the first transactions of the new trading day, while the perception of geopolitical risk in global markets weighs on the index.

BIST 100 Index Opening and Sectoral Divergence

  • The BIST 100 index started at 13,399.44 points, a decrease of 0.08% compared to the previous close.
  • The index, which closed the previous session at 13,410.54 points with a 0.35% loss, showed a pullback of 11.10 points as of today.
  • The banking index lost 0.52% in value, while the holding index attracted attention with a 0.46% increase.
  • When sectoral performance is examined, textile & leather was the most gaining sector with 0.96%, while the food & beverage index was the most declining sector with 0.57%.
  • Geopolitical Tensions and Data Agenda

Global markets are following a mixed course due to concerns regarding developments in the Middle East. Despite peace negotiations in the region, investors continue to price in potential conflict risks. The domestic and international data agenda for today is as follows:

  • The Real Effective Exchange Rate data will be monitored domestically.
  • Internationally, the Trade Balance, JOLTS Job Openings, and Durable Goods Orders data from the US economy carry critical importance.
  • In technical analysis, 13,300 and 13,200 points stand out as support levels for BIST 100; while 13,500 and 13,600 points are determined as resistance points.

Expectations for interest rate cuts in the swap markets may re-price with today's data flow. Specifically, the JOLTS data from the US will change perceptions regarding the Fed's policy stance, directly affecting risk appetite in emerging market assets. Maintaining the 13,300 support in BIST 100 will be a critical signal for short-term directional traders.
