IMF Spokesperson: Global Economy Resilient, But Uncertainty Remains High

International Monetary Fund (IMF) Spokesperson Julie Kozack evaluated the developments in the global economy. Kozack indicated that the global economy has shown a resilient structure, despite being faced with several shocks, including the impact of the war in the Middle East.

Resilience in the Global Economy

Kozack noted that despite high uncertainty, the global economy has maintained its resilience. She stated, "We predict that the level of uncertainty will remain high."
  • A negative supply shock caused by the war, which has driven up commodity prices, especially energy, fertilizer, and food.
  • A positive shock driven by technological cycles and investments, particularly in artificial intelligence, which has increased demand and productivity.
  • Central Banks and Communication Strategies

In response to a question about the IMF's forward guidance tool in monetary policy communication, Kozack said this practice is a useful element of central banks' strategies. She recalled that forward guidance was beneficial when policy rates were at zero after the global financial crisis, but now conditions have changed, and it is natural for central banks to assess whether their communication methods need to be updated.
Markets may face the continuation of resilience in the global economy, despite high uncertainty levels. This situation may necessitate central banks, such as the Fed, to review their communication strategies.
