US-Mexico Chip War: $1 Billion Strawberry Export at Risk
ABD Ticaret Bakanlığı'nın Meksika'nın çilek ihracatında dumping (fiyat manipülasyonu) bulması, Meksika ekonomisini şiddetli bir darbeyle karşı karşıya

The U.S. Commerce Department's ruling on dumping in Mexican strawberry exports has sent shockwaves through the Mexican economy. The department found that Mexico was selling strawberries at prices between 3.37% and 5.28% below their normal value, with an average dumping margin of 4.83%. This decision could impact nearly 5,000 Mexican strawberry growers, 97% of whom are small or medium-scale farmers with up to 10 hectares of land. The ruling also affects 151,000 jobs linked to strawberry cultivation. In 2025, Mexico exported 263,000 metric tons of strawberries to the U.S., worth $1 billion. Mexico's government argues that the criteria used by the Commerce Department are inconsistent with the World Trade Organization's Anti-Dumping Agreement and the provisions of the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement. This dispute could escalate tensions in U.S.-Mexico trade relations.
As the U.S. grapples with the chip crisis, Mexico's struggles in strawberry exports highlight the country's vulnerability in global supply chains. If the U.S. Trade Commission's final ruling goes against Mexico, it could lead to significant economic hardship for the country's strawberry producers.
