Japonya'nın en büyük finansal holdingi **MUFG**, geleneksel sermaye piyasalarının yapısını kökten değiştirmek amacıyla Japon hazine tahvili (JGB) repo

Japan's largest financial holding group, MUFG, has announced the launch of a comprehensive proof of concept (PoC) to move Japanese government bond (JGB) repo transactions onto a blockchain-based infrastructure, aiming to fundamentally restructure the traditional capital markets. This initiative seeks to provide market participants with the ability to trade continuously, seven days a week, while maximizing capital efficiency by reducing operational costs.
Institutional Consensus on the Canton Network
The company is leveraging sector-wide collaborations and deploying the Canton Network infrastructure to realize this technological transformation. Four core MUFG entities have united for this project, alongside key technology partners:Vision for Capital Efficiency and 24/7 Liquidity
The primary motivation behind this pilot application is to eliminate the time and cost constraints inherent in the legacy financial system. MUFG and its partners plan to set a new standard in financial operations through the automation enabled by blockchain technology:Tokyo’s Investment in the Digital Asset Ecosystem
This move is positioned as part of the Payment Innovation Project pilot announced by Japan's Financial Services Agency (FSA) in February 2026. The government aims to create an environment where fintech firms can test advanced technologies such as blockchain, stablecoins, and tokenization. MUFG previously discontinued its GO-Net Japan payments project to focus entirely on stablecoin initiatives; the company's Progmat Coin platform enables banks to issue Japanese yen-pegged stablecoins on public blockchains. As a strategist, I view this development as definitive proof that RWA (Real World Asset) tokenization is moving beyond mere pilot applications. MUFG moving JGB repo transactions to the Canton Network paves the way for the integration of traditional fixed-income securities with DeFi liquidity pools. When we focus on miner movements in on-chain data or ETF flows, it becomes inevitable to see how such institutional infrastructure investments will increase market depth and structure volatility. This is one of the most critical inflection points in the integration of crypto assets into the mainstream financial system.
