Nigeria’s Revenue Service has rolled out a comprehensive tax collection framework for crypto asset platforms, tightening regulation in the digital economy.

The Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) outlined in its "Guidelines on Taxation of Virtual Assets" how earnings from crypto disposals, staking, airdrops and DeFi activities will be taxed, mandating that certain amounts be paid in the originating token.

Compliance Roadmap for Platforms
Exchanges and P2P marketplaces must withhold, report, and remit taxes at source. Income tax and stamp duty are to be remitted in the originating token, while VAT must be paid in the currency used for the transaction.

Taxing digital assets positions Nigeria to modernize its fiscal architecture, yet the compliance burden may compress liquidity on local exchanges and P2P venues in the short term.
