Sterling Crisis Deepens: BoE Interest Rate Policy and Market Implications
724FinanceKerem Tufan

The Bank of England's (BoE) decision to keep interest rates at 3.75% has raised concerns about sterling's potential decline. ING Bank's Chris Turner reported that the BoE is not under as much pressure as the Federal Reserve, with tightening expectations likely to weaken over the year. The BoE will announce its interest rate decision at 14:00 BST. ING forecasts sterling could fall to the 0.8600-0.8610 range by Thursday.
The easing of tightening expectations could lead to a gradual depreciation of sterling. With commercial credit tightening and macroprudential measures impacting the banking sector, further downward pressure on sterling is anticipated.
