Uber's Strategic Move: Delivery Hero Deal to Add 50M Users and $1.2B in Synergies
Uber Technologies is aiming to strengthen its position in the global delivery market through the acquisition of Delivery Hero, targeting an expansion of its cross-platform mobility and delivery strategy in key regions such as the Middle East and Korea. CEO Dara Khosrowshahi emphasized that the deal is being pursued "from a position of strength," leveraging Uber's growth, improving profitability, and free cash flow generation to support both organic investments and strategic acquisitions. CFO Balaji Krishnamurthy noted that the transaction, pending regulatory approvals, is expected to close in the second half of 2027, delivering modest non-GAAP EPS accretion at closing and high single-digit EPS growth by year three. The company projects $1.2 billion in run-rate synergies within 18 months, driven by integrating Delivery Hero's brands onto a unified technology platform and achieving cost savings in headcount, support services, payments, insurance, and advertising.
