CFTC Imposes 5-Year Trading Ban on Ex-Alameda, FTX Execs
ABD Emtia ve Fütürler Ticaret Komisyonu (CFTC), Alameda Research CEO'su Caroline Ellison ve FTX kurucusu Zixiao 'Gary' Wang'a karşı açtığı davayı sonl

The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has finalized its case against former Alameda Research CEO Caroline Ellison and FTX co-founder Zixiao 'Gary' Wang after FTX and Alameda agreed to pay $12.7 billion in disgorgement and restitution in August 2024. The CFTC imposed a five-year trading ban on both executives, along with an 8-year registration ban for Wang and a 10-year ban for Ellison. CFTC Enforcement Director David Miller stated, 'Ellison and Wang were senior executives who committed fraud at Alameda and FTX, for which they were found liable, though their sanctions reflect their material assistance in the Commission's FTX-related investigations.' The cases were initially filed in December 2022 alongside FTX CEO Sam 'SBF' Bankman-Fried. Ellison and Wang, along with former FTX engineering director Nishad Singh, were indicted for fraud related to misusing customer funds during FTX's collapse. Ellison received a two-year prison sentence and was released early in January 2024, while Wang and Singh served their time.
The CFTC's decisions underscore the ongoing regulatory push in crypto markets. The collapse of Alameda and FTX highlights persistent risks of large-scale fraud. Investors are increasingly demanding stricter penalties for such executives, signaling a shift toward harsher enforcement in the industry.
