Venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) has scaled its fifth growth fund from $6.75 billion to $8.5 billion, adding $1.75 billion since its January launch. This expansion coincides with the firm's announcement of raising an additional $1.1 billion for a new fund, the 'Machine Age Fund,' which focuses on AI hardware startups developing chips, memory, networking, and storage. The growth fund itself targets enterprise and consumer AI technologies, defense tech, robotics, infrastructure hardware and software, and health tech. The firm also allocated significant resources to political campaigns and lobbying. a16z's total new funding reached $15 billion, with $90 billion in assets under management.
The global supply chain tensions and rapid growth in the AI sector are shaping a16z's strategic investments, blending cutting-edge technologies with traditional sectors to drive sustainable growth in the AI era.
