Turkey Plastic Waste Workshop: 17 Ministries' Green Transformation Plan

The Turkey Plastic Waste Workshop, held in Bakırköy over two days, served as a platform for Istanbul Governor Davut Gül to lead discussions on solutions to the plastic crisis. The event featured 15 working groups addressing sustainable plastic production, packaging development, plastic waste recycling, and green financing. Istanbul Technical University (ITU) Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Mandal highlighted the detailed discussions across 15 working areas, emphasizing the need to transform these ideas into a comprehensive report. Samed Ağırbaş, Chairman of the Zero Waste Foundation and COP31 High-Level Climate Champion, stated that the workshop would yield tangible outcomes for COP31. Ağırbaş emphasized that the workshop's findings, backed by 17 ministries, would be implemented to remove plastic waste crisis from citizens' agendas. Highlighting the workshop's significance, Ağırbaş noted that Turkey's approach to plastic waste management has gained international attention. The discussions are seen as foundational to Turkey's plastic vision for COP31, with the 2053 Turkey Plastic Vision aiming for a zero-waste future.
