Terra Industries Secures $52M Seed Round to Build African Defense Infrastructure

Nigerian defense tech startup Terra Industries has closed its seed funding round at $52 million, marking a significant milestone in the African defense technology ecosystem. The round included an additional $18 million, with investors including Joe Lonsdale's 8VC, Silent Ventures, and Nova Global. Since its launch in 2024, Terra has rapidly emerged as a key player, developing autonomous systems, drones, and mine-detecting combat vehicles. The company aims to secure $100 million in contracts—including at least one federal contract—and generate tens of millions in revenue by year-end. Terra's competition includes any defense firm that has secured government contracts, particularly from Turkey, China, and the West. The startup plans to expand manufacturing in the Global South, open a London office, and establish offices in San Francisco and Washington, DC to enhance capital access and U.S. partnerships. This funding round represents a crucial step in addressing Africa's defense infrastructure needs with indigenous solutions.
