High volatility in global energy markets, upward movements in foreign exchange rates, and successive SCT (Special Consumption Tax) adjustments are pushing fuel prices in Turkey toward a new equilibrium. Fuel costs, which have become one of the most decisive elements in consumers' daily expense items, continue to reflect macroeconomic pressures directly at the pump.

The Nexus of Currency Volatility and Fiscal Pressure

Turkey's dependence on energy imports and the fluctuations in the local currency are making fuel price predictability increasingly difficult. In particular, consecutive increases in the Special Consumption Tax are bringing about cost hikes that go beyond changes in global oil prices.
